Bonjour, I am a French native living near London since 2000 teaching GCSE, IGCSE, A level. I am familiar with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). I am passionate about teaching French and I have been creating my own resources for different level. My role as a teacher is to encourage and enable students to achieve their potential as independent learner through encouragement, and lessons are tailored to the students' needs and expectations with additional study work and conversational skills in preparation for exams.
After finishing my degree, I taught French in a language club for adults from beginner to advanced level and in a primary school. I am currently working online, from home or travel to my students, I also have a number of corporate adult lessons online or on-site. Many of my students are also adults, I usually work one to one, focusing on conversation skills and grammar, using tailor made resources based on your goals, level and interests.
My teaching approach is to tailor the lessons to the child or adult`s needs and to make them enjoyable and interesting. Many of my students approached me because they were having difficulty with speaking under exam conditions. Lessons generally follow a text book to provide structure with additional material to ensure students improve grammar, vocabulary, verb tenses and have a better comprehension of complex sentence structures. However, I know that too much grammar can be overwhelming and so it is important to balance that with interesting discussions based on newspaper articles and debates about current French affairs or news. All lessons are planned and delivered following the curriculum guidelines using various learning styles including visual, auditory and kinaesthetic.
I have experience in preparing for GCSE AQA, Edexcel. IGCSE Camridge and Edexcel, AQA. A-level AQA and Edexcel. However, I will be happy to take on students preparing for exams under any exam board, and always make sure that I am familiar with the relevant specification and mark schemes.
The most significant achievement has been helping one student who was not interested in French but gained confidence by putting into practice what I have taught to him. I made learning challenging enough, but not so though that he got frustrated and stopped trying. The final result was to hear about his mum saying " French is not his favourite subject but you are obviously doing something right because he goes to you every week come rain or shine and never moans or tries to get out of it." Everything is possible if you are patient and ready to work hard towards your personal goals.

“Dorothee was instrumental in turning round my daughters performance in French GCSE, helping to move her from someone who was barely scraping along and did not enjoy French at all, into a confident and solid performer on track for good results in the summer.”
