I’m an experienced English tutor, looking to help students improve their passion and focus within the subject!
Hello all! My name is Palvisha, and I have tutoring for 5+ years- my students have varied between primary, secondary and A-Level. My main focus is English Lit/Lang, and I’m also able to assist in other topics such as entrance exams and humanities subjects (sociology, politics, etc). In regards to the my background, I have been proficient in English from my own school days, wherein I achieved A/A* consistently. I have gone on to work in several sectors, marketing, tech, project management, which have all requested a high level of copywriting (so I’m never rusty!). As it may be clear, I’m very passionate about the language, and I love to instil that in my students. If I can help you to achieve your desired grades and make sure it’s an enjoyable experience too- then I can’t imagine anything better!
I have been tutoring for 5+ years formally, however as an older sibling, my experience started much earlier than that! The age ranges of students I have tutored have varied from 4-40+.
I prefer to do an assessment during the first class, to understand the overall focus for the student for the school years, what we are hoping to achieve and which areas we need to improve on together. Following this, I would like to agree upon a suggested learning schedule with the student, wherein we plan the focus of upcoming classes. Each class will involve homework- this can be replaced or supplemented with any homework already set by the school. However, I will need notice if the student would like to focus on doing homework together during the class/discussing something learnt at school that week. I ask for all set homework to be completed- if it is not completed 3 times, it may warrant a discussion on whether there is a strong enough commitment.
I am familiar with AQA & OCR I have on occasion worked with Edexcel- however I am more familiar with the the formers.
I have seen strong improvement from my previous students. This will variy on their personal goals. Some of my students have walked away with a renewed interest in the topic, and able to work better independently. Some are able to implement new techniques on their own confidently. Some walk away with higher grades, as my most recent student did!
